Assuming gender norms and the female subject of the album, it's likely concerning her and a Stockholm-Syndrome-like complex that many develop in abusive relationship, accepting and justifying the abuse as just a part of the relationship. The literal e-mails home are saying, "everything is great!" Clearly, it's not.
