I personally know that a lot of people interpret this song as having to do with God/Jesus, and that's the great thing about music. How you interpret a song can be completely different from someone else, or even the actual writers of the song.
Myself, I am in a long distance relationship. It's not that bad, three hours apart, but it's not like we could drive everyday to be with each other, it's just not doable in our schedules. When I hear this song, I think about him.

This, to me, is basically me saying.. This distance? It can't keep him and I apart. We're still connected. We still love each other, and we know that no amount of distance could ruin this friendship, this love, this connection that we have grown accustomed to.
