Killing Strangers Lyrics

A few things come to mind when attempting to understand this song. I used to assume that people were referring to themselves in songs, and later found out that a lot of songs are satirical. Now we could assume that Marilyn Manson is killing strangers, but we know better than that. He might be referring to war, killing people in other countries, so they don't kill the people we love in our country. Maybe it's the murderers that we are killing, so they don't kill our loved ones. Perhaps Marilyn Manson is thinking about how one would kill strangers instead of their loved ones, to release their anger and aggression without paying the price of losing someone they love, but maybe just hate at times.

My Interpretation

@Jewellfire I agree with you. Almost all of his songs are making fun of society and poking fun at them. In my opinion, I think it's about how soldiers kill other people, who are strangers to them, so they won't kill the ones we love. This song could also be used for a tribute of some sort for Sons of Anarchy and how they're killing strangers, so they could protect who they love. Just adding my thoughts here!

@ImYourFuneral: You're right that MM has never shy'd away from social commentary. I feel like this song is commentary on the current controversy on the right to bear arms. How humans/Americans would prefer to own guns and kill strangers than to empathize with others ("We pack demolition, We can't pack emotion") and solve the society's problems peacefully. But then I'm a bleeding-heart liberal. ;-)
