Yeah I definitely think it's about abuse or neglect at home. Most likely from his father. I think that because of the last two lines in the first verse "kerosene hearts carry the name that my father gave me and take the face of the wolf." I think this is part of his thought process about whether he should run away or not, if he continues to take it he might end up like that. In the bridge he also said "I've waited all this knight to honor you. And say I know it's hard, but who are you to take it out on me?
