The song is pretty straight forward, It talks of a couple in July Talk's conversational style. The first verse showing the person walking to their old home before they moved away, trying to remember memories of their previous significant other, but all they remember is swapping lies between each other because thats all that felt right between their relationship.

The next verse goes on to speak about trying to replace them with whiskey and moving away, away from their home and the people they know, but specially them, justifying the reason as being young and high strung over them.

Next two lines go on to say now they're at a point when they need the other person the most, but they're now across town but they need time meaning maybe it was a recent breakup.

Ending with "We'll survive by tellin' lies we've rationed well" saying they survive by telling lies to eachother, and they'll do well for themselves keeping this space and lying.
