I've been a Linkin Park fan for a lot of time now. A Thousand Suns is, with no doubt, my favourite album of them all.
I think the album should be enjoyed in its correct order. Not on shuffle. As it has a meaning to it. It's like a story that's being told.
But as I was enjoying the album, and then checked out the shorter songs in between the main ones, I couldn't avoid noticing the names of them. At first they seem very dark, and doesn't have a deeper meaning to them. But if you look closely, and look at the order of the songs, it means something.
In correct order:

Empty Spaces
Jornado Del Muerto
Wisdom, Justice, And Love
Fallout
The Requiem:
The first step after a nuclear weapon has been dropped.
Like "the mass of the dead". After the two bombs were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima, there obviously was a lot of dead people. And to honor and mourn them, they called this song "The Requiem".
It's right after a bomb has been dropped, people of the loved ones whom died, usually mourn and pray.
The Radiance:
The second step.
After an atomic weapon has been dropped and detonated, there's a lot of radiation, which will haunt the survivors until their life ends.
Empty Spaces:
The third step.
There are empty spaces after a bomb of that size, both physically and psychological.
There's the debris of the city (e.g. Hiroshima), and then there's the loved ones who are now dead, which leaves an empty space inside of you.
Jornada Del Muerto:
The fourth step.
(According to Google Translate) "Jornado Del Muerto" means "day of the dead".
After the mourning and the 'empty spaces', the dead people has to be burried. Which is 'the day of the dead'.
Wisdom, Justice, And Love:
The fifth step.
After burial of the dead, the state that dropped the bomb (the US in this case) has to burry the evidence, that it was an act of crime. They have to hide, that they actually killed innocent citizens of Japan.
Also if you listen to Martin Luther's words, you can hear him talk about "innocent lives", and so on.
Fallout:
The sixth step.
It's about the fallout of dropping such a powerful weapon on the lives of innocents.
The short 'songs' are about the consequences of dropping such a meaninglessly-powerful weapon.
