Maybe i'm oversimplifying it but I believe it is about the choices in life and the next life, or the afterlife. Follow your dreams and when all your wandering is done, your life will "be over" and your soul will begin a new journey ~~ and you will love and be loved.

In it he referred to this song as having a "end of life" theme, and that one's spirit (soul) will then experience new life and new adventures. I like your theory of "choices" as well.
