This may be a long shot, but to me it sounds like this song could be about drug addiction. The reason why I say this is because I am an addict myself. and when I listen to this song, I fit the lyrics in almost spot on with how I would describe my addiction and the toll it has taken on my life. It seems as if he may be trying to overcome the addiction from these lyrics. "Give me the strength to move this mountain" is pretty self explanatory because to quit an addiction is very difficult. "This was more than I could ask for" may mean he thought he was in control at first, but it completely took over as he now has no control. "As you further your tragedy to prove to me you're alive" may mean as the addiction progresses, he's reminded that the drug is in full control. "Give me the strength to flood this valley to wash my hands of you"....he is seeking the energy and motivation to stop so he can gain control of his life again. The last few lines of the song essentially mean quitting the addiction and pretty much starting your life over on a new fresh page takes a lot of work, strength and willpower. It's a long hard road which he will have to face and overcome himself, by himself, for hisself.
