I have always loved this song, but the lyrics can be interpreted any number of ways. I do know, however, why there is a discrepancy in the lyrics--this song was originally recorded by Rupert Hine with slightly different lyrics. "Then you went away/And I never heard" was "Then you flew awat/Like a migrant bird" and "I knew when winter comes that you will disappear" was "I know that every winter you must disappear. Also "All the pictures I believe" was "All those pictures you believe."
