Okay sorry to be annoying but my boyfriend and I came up with another interpretation which I think makes the most sense: long distance relationship. The girl leaving perhaps to pursue acting or something along these lines (she tells him "you gonna see my face in lights") and the worry is of the other cheating; there's a lot of talk of "faith" in the other person, perhaps and he also says "behave" almost assuming she may be unfaithful when away to which she replies she won't: "you don't read minds" and he tells himself to "be patient - she won't leave me shaken" meaning she won't mess up or hurt him or go against her word. In reference to "I keep falling", this could also be used with the idea of cheating or slipping up and misbehaving and he's saying obviously tongue-in-cheek (hey, it's Paul Banks after all) that it's "all the rage back home" as if to say, hey, isn't this what's meant to happen anyway?

When he says "behave, you want to leave my lady lover Of my eighteen summers, alone", means that he does not want her to ruin the image that he has of her while abroad. Distance changes people, and he doesn't want his image of her to be tainted. Alternatively,...

  • Alternatively, "you gonna see my face in lights" might mean that she will not have anything to hide
  • Alternatively, "I keep falling" might mean more of a mental breakdown rather than cheating; depression produced by the thought that she is not being true
  • @obstacle2 I like these. Maybe because I can relate.
