Thanks for your comments, they are both eye-opening and disappointing. But "on empty" sounds 100% logic. Also it was rather the late 80s that E hit the scene, so I guess Blondie weren't even aware of any ambiguosity, back then in the late 70s...
@Hansen147 Their A&R man was keeping them so Coked up plus Destri had a drug problem but he was the songwriter so they looked the other way. They were a little older so I doubt they were into Ecstasy
