With "To fly back with, a branch in its beak, to rescue me." and the comment about being on a boat (I'M ON A BOAT!). Sounds like references to the story of Noah's Ark? Maybe a parody of that story to being in a dire or seemingly hopeless and stranded situation? Might be a stretch. :P
@nimbice I think you're right on the money. She is stuck on a boat in an endless sea. There is no land in sight, and she struggles to keep scanning the horizon because she hasn't seen anything in so long. If only the Dove would return with a branch to prove that there is still a horizon to look for.
