Probably both had many other loves and relationships, loose and serious but mutally feel that they are the ones for each other because besides being physivally strongly attracted to each other, they both share a kind of spiritual connection. "The reasons why you and me should talk about the great unknown." "The things we know we don't know." And yet beneath all the everyday stuff, the Great unknown is far more important to some people.
The more you study and think about things like the purpose of life and what happens after, unless you latch on to some mental belief system and close the doors to all other beliefs, "the things we know we don't know."
They've tried to part for good but they pine for each other so badly that as she knows he feels the same, she is going to go and get him.
