This is such a short song (made seem so that it is short), yet it has so much feelings put into i can't even describe it. As a beginning, i think this song is about facing failure countless times in life. If you follow the melody of the song in the beginning, until Corey starts singing the lyrics, you can notice, that for approximately 0:20 minutes the song doesnt seem so sad, does it? Then it starts to descend into a critical state. The closest word i can get to in this song is a journey of everyone's.
-The best thing i love about stone sour is you can relate so much to your own situation when listening to them, and i think they made it deliberately. In this case, it is your journey you can relate to now. -
After reaching to the point where we hear the coming of a sinister entity conveyed by the piano's slow rythm, corey has made a perfect job adding probably the best lyrics to this part.
"My body's broken
No words are spoken"
He is helpless and exhausted, he can't say anything at all he has no hopes left anymore.
"Am I finally at the end?" When will the suffering end? When will the endless failures end? Just when?? When will i be happy?
"This conflagration
Is my contagion
Pulls me down yet again"
The conflagration here is basically himself, he is the fire that turns everything into ash he touches (contagion), and he can't help it, he cant do any better by now, it always pulls him down everytime.
"Maybe life is nothing more
Than a curse inside the blessed"
It's kind of like: What have i done to deserve this? Why am i supposed to suffer so much why can't it just end or end my life?
"I will fight this bloody war
With every strangled breath" He is fed up with failure, he will keep his efforts until he dies to achieve what he wants, even if it ends up him more suffering.
"I'm on my own
I'm on my own"
It does not necessarily mean that he doesnt want any help from anybody, it simply means that even if he asked someone to help him (or something), it does not matter, since this is a complication that ONLY he can solve.
"I don't need a conscience
I don't need to feel
I don't need these weary eyes
Tell me what I know is real"
He does not want to live in the present anymore, he wants to live his dreams, his imaginary world that he thinks he knows he will get it, he is fed up with tears, he wants to live in happiness finally, by now he has no present nor feelings but only his future.
"I don't need anybody
To tell me who I am
Blame it on the broken heart
I've fallen apart again"
He doesn't listen to anybody anymore, he became very stubborn so stubborn that nobody can lead him off of his path (that he chose) then he is at the end of the path, but he finds himself amongst failures again and he must build himself up again and again as this is a circle that nobody knows when will end..
