I think it's clearly about a feeling of regret about an old love story never happened.
The protagonist never had (or he/she lost) a chance with his/her love, and now he don't even want to remember what he/she lost.
Anyway, I can't undersand well the second verse.

Guess I still don't understand
Maybe it means that thought his/her love can't see the protagonist's love, he/she tried to remain near to this person. Maybe the protagonist can't understand why he choose that, becouse it makes he/she feel bad.
