It appears to be a song about lovers finding "heaven" on the rooftop (take that as you will). However, on a much deeper and more sinister level, going up the ladder (typifying the spine, starting at the so-called lower "chakra") to the roof (the upper "chakra") represents the demonic concept of "kundalini awakening" wherein one supposedly becomes awakened, enlightened, or illuminated (hence, "illuminate the night" verse) by having this demonic coiled/serpent energy rise from the sanctum bone to the fontanelle and bursting forth with a fountain of enlightenment (aka advanced stages of demon possession); bringing them 'out of the darkness' and closer to (their deceived conception of) heaven. They will then supposedly be free (typified by running across the sky, which also has astrological ramifications). One says to the other that they "will try and guide" them (false prophets, teachers, or gurus), to lead them to this (false) experience that purports to bring about "better times and brighter days" (which is a lie as is evidenced here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kundalini_syndrome and on other sites discussing the harmful effects of kundalini demonism). The words "Don't be afraid - Go up the ladder to the roof where we can see heaven much better / be oh closer to heaven" are repeated to distract from these real harms and ills. Also, in this promised (but illusory) state of non-existential bliss, 'all bad memories' (and everything else) is said to "all fade away" so long as you "come up the ladder (spine / chakrahs) to the roof (fontanelle near the highest so-called chakrah, the "little fountain" -which is what fontanelle means -- at the top of one's head... hence the "fountain of loveliness" portion). Consider this Satan's lying promise to all smart enough to see the true meaning but dumb enough to believe the lie.
