Like in "The Black Market" Tim is talking about himself. However in this song the message is slightly different.

Here Tim talks about how he's been "awake too long" or how he has been aware of all the negative in the world and all the causes there are too fight for for far too long.

He's tired of seeing all this negative in the world and because of the person he is, he will never be able to just sit idly by and let it happen.

My favorite line in this song is "we threw swords in the ocean, wide and deep". It explains his situation perfectly, how out seems futile trying to fight the world. Like trying to harm the ocean by throwing swords at it.

It makes you wonder if it's better to just fall asleep. . . to experience the bliss that is ignorance.
