I think this song is about a guy who really cares for a girl, but their relationship seems strained every now and then. It's like they feel so distant sometimes, because he might have hurt her in the past or they might have broken up at one point, but he just wants to be with her and for things to get better. They say things they don't quite understand, and someone ends up getting hurt from their words. But even when this happens, he knows that she was always there for him and hopes that she will be in the future, too. He never wanted to admit defeat or any of his faults; he would try and conceal his flaws But now he promises that he will stand by her and always be there for her. He still patiently waits for her emotional wounds to heal, while he knows that they both still have feelings for each other. This song is like his official promise to her, and doesn’t want it to be forgotten. He then promises that he won't ever hurt her again, and how he will get their relationship back to the way it should be.
