My interpretation of the songs is it sounds like a couple and he was a alcoholic or on hard drugs and she took care of him like a co-dependent. I think she tried to save him and he never would change. Then she turned around and said I can't do this anymore I love you, but I'm leaving you. It took him by surprise and he doesn't know how he will go on with out her because she has always done so much for him and her leaving him was his rock bottom. So he says to her just give me another chance, how can I live with out you, I didn't realize how bad I was falling. He says maybe in another lifetime we could have made it till death do us part.
