Panthers are an iconic species of Florida wildlife. The panther is a magnificent apex predator that used to be found all across the United States, but now, due to extreme hunting and habitat destruction by man, is now found nowhere east of the Rocky Mountains other than the Florida everglades, where they live a near refugee lifestyle in thick, remote swampland, far from prying human eyes, feeding on deer, birds, and other smaller animals.
One could argue that the life history of the Florida panther is analogous to much of Against Me!'s message.
