This song is a tricky one... Again, going with the theme of the Rabbit Fur Coat album, I think there is a little bit of religious undertones in this song:
"If you wanna get to heaven, get out of this world"
this can have a couple of different meanings but what I think is that this world is definitely not heaven and in order to get there you have to get the hell out of here (or that you have to die first). There is too much bad in this world to get to heaven from here.
Jenny wrote this album while battling insomnia and was often up at night watching Carl Sagan's "Cosmos" series. She even mentions the cosmos in the song.
So what I think she is saying that there is a little bit of a voyager in everyone which means there is a little bit in everyone that can leave this world and get to heaven :)
Totally could be wrong there so please COMMENT. Would love to hear your thoughts
@wannabepoet What you said, Poet, that was one of my first thoughts about this song but I think it has a different meaning most likely. I totally believe it has religious undertones but I believe the voyager is "getting lost in something" such as a book or good tv show or video game or anything. It's possible it could mean death though. I just don't think so .. especially in her new music.
