(sorry, typos)

I think this song is about a girl who is bullied, or more vaguely about society and how peers can make life difficult for you if they don't like you. Here's how I read the chorus:

"She opened her arms, her arms to the world" She's a nice, sincere person with an open heart "The world bent down to remind her, to open her ears Her ears to the sound The sound of the song that would define her" The WORLD puts her down ("bent down" as in she is LOWER than the rest of them) and puts labels on her and says mean things to/about her. People sort of determine who you are by how they perceive you to be and once they'd made their decision you are almost cast in how you're gonna live and be treated. and I guess they defined her as something bad. "She opened her eyes Her eyes to the gaze Of the face of the stranger who helped her No longer held captive, a captive to the race He erased the chains that compelled her" ***But there was one person who was nice to her and became her friend, so she was no longer completely alone.

I like the way the lyrics flow and how they're simple yet tell an intricate story.
