Lazaretto Lyrics

Lyric discussion by professorwhy

Cover art for Lazaretto lyrics by Jack White

Basically Lucifer's story, a nuanced interpretation of the universe as a musical instrument - the Lazaretto, reality/song produced from the reincarnation of spirits into bodies and their life and death decisions.

"My vains are blue" (sad vanity) "connected to every single bone" (sexual conquests) "and my brain is elect-trick" (...)

"But I dig ditches like the best of them" (fallen)

[Spanish for "my work is like wood and plaster"]. Working in impermanence, he is the morning star, father of mornings and evenings rather than eternal beholdance.

The only other thing I'll say is "coffee and cotton" probably means "been" and "picked." He was them or wants to be them.

Also, it's "caste of the masses," not cash.

Since I'm not about to violate the chain of command, I guess... heil?

My Interpretation

I think some of this spot on. ..

Its also about human suffering the human condition. That we are in fact human not permemant beings its a about the hope that there is God its tied to his love of the Black Plague time period hence ,Lazeretto (dfn an isolation hospital for people with infectious diseases, especially leprosy or plague ) in the end its about redemption , strength , sticking t o own own ideals

Caste and prison riot // seem like revolutionary images
overall about , Human triumph

interesting @professorwhy! thanks!
