To me it's about a couple that has been together long enough that the initial new relationship "high" has faded away. They have been through a lot and may be down on their luck, financially or what have you. Sometimes they take each other for granted because they're used to one another, but when it all boils down to it they feel like what they have is irreplaceable regardless if its simplicity and seeming mediocrity.
