You're all wrong here! You'd don't understand the song. I know it's been 9 years, but I want to say, even though the people who wrote most of the comments, will never probably read it. It's actually about a woman, telling about her relationship with someone, explaining HER own mistakes and how hard it is for HER, and for all people, to express your true feelings to someone, and let them know how much you really love them, and this song may not even be about a lover at all, it could very well be about a friend. It's like if she had told someone the right words, that person may have stayed, but she hadn't, and so at the moment of the song, it's about that. How life works, why it's the way it is and not the other way around. It's philosophical. It's not just about "a man who didn't treat her right", it's about Her, and ... Heck, it may not even be about a man, - you know what I think? I think it's most likely about a Woman.
@Sheila22
Sheila you are so correct on you answer my beautiful girlfriend sent me this song and said she wants to play it at our wedding. She has a hard time telling me how much she loves me but I know she does and she has me for the rest if her life.

What Chapman has going for her is the sheer musicality of her songs and the expressive power of her voice, which, despite her discomfort with the comparison, recalls Joan Armatrading’s in its richness and emotional range. And while all of Chapman’s songs are informed by her political songwriter. In the lovely Baby Can I Hold You she writes such moving simplicity about the pain of waiting for a commitment that never seems to come : “I love you/Is all that you can’t say/Years gone by and still/Words don’t come easily/Like I love you I love you.” For You, which closes...

@Sheila22 I believe you are right.
It's about a WOMAN who left her man without saying SORRY, FORGIVE ME, I LOvE YOU, although she was deeply in love with him. She could say If I told you the right words at the rught time you 'd be mine...but she never said anything.
The man was waiting fir a SORRY, FORGIVE ME, I LOVE YOU....but she never told him anything....So, he found someone else, he got married, he had children and he is dreaming about his love of the past. He wanted so much to listen those woeds: SORRY, FORGIVE ME, I LOVE...
