Firstly, let me say I'm a huge RHCP fan and a huge AK fan as well and my own opinion pains me to express.
Now, I agree with the bulk of these comments being that this song is more than likely about the terrible and completely self-disappointed feeling an addict has when he or she realizes they are about to relapse and are past the point of no return. Hence the sorrowful mood the song holds until the last section.
But as for happier sounding ending part of the song when it seems that the speaker has resisted the urge to buy more drugs, think about this, maybe he didn't resist buying the heroine...maybe he just did the heroine...and THAT is the sign from the gods...
