This song sounds great, and it's catchy, but... I can't get over the fact that most of the similes make it wrong. I mean, if you lie like a Persian rug, or a penny, or a dog, you're laying down... not speaking a falsehood. So that's really annoying. Catchy though.
that's what I thought at first as well but then she says "it just comes way too natural to you" like how all those items do those things naturally. his nature is telling lies.
maybe she used those so that way when whoever she wrote it for hears it, they would hear "lie" the whole dang song so they'd be haunted by how much he lied and how hurt it obviously made her..
