So get this, with an open mind: The first verse of the song is about a bad habit, maybe drugs (I understand this from that point of view myself personally) or whatever, but it "always keeps him coming back for more. The first few sentences can be comprehended as an analogy between his bad habit and another character, what may be portrayed as a female. "I can't remember how it feels to be alone" is talking about how he doesn't remember when he was sober (again I'm not saying that this is what DGD had in mind because I have no authority to know at all, it is simply my viewpoint) which may be used for the bad habit. He always gets a call from the "female" which he has been waiting all day for in anticipation (I sure know how that feels). So you get what I'm saying.
The next part where Mess picks up continues his bad habit but I specifically want to focus on one key part: "It's an analogy backfire, in the cliché storm of backwards prose..." so let's decipher what this means. It's an analogy backfire (he is trying to come up with this clever analogy to hide the mistakes but it backfires), in the cliche storm of backwards prose, in his same old excuse that he always uses; cliche meaning that he has said it so many times that the meaning has become meaningless. "Shoot the agony beams, Wearing sacrificial clothes" as if he is hurting himself because of this habit.
This can be continued in the next part "I haven't slept for weeks" (however the whole "tear apart those sheets" part is a branch in the path haha) and he wants to "Get to know your form again." The reader can continue through the lyrics with this mindset, but I want to get to one part where Mess comes in again:
Paging Dr mess your patients throwing food and ate his robe
I like this passage because- though again this is only my opinion and not DGDs (maybe)- Paging Dr mess your patients - okay so we are dealing with someone who is sick for some reason already - throwing food and ate his robe - so the patient whom is sick is throwing his food and just ate his robe; he is throwing or using inappropriately his "food" and "eating" that which isn't food, he's doing everything ass backwards.
Back through the chorus...through the whole
"Quantum something can do anything, easier said than done
An accidental public confession was made, can't be the only one
I was in a viper fight, but I'm alright.
That jacket looks good on most people
Confused cause I'm too dumb to find the light, finally exiled"
i trust you can decipher this. Because I want to get to this part in particular:
"Overcome by circumstance
I put my life in the devil's hands
Fell lower than before
Lower than ever before"
So what's going on here is he is "overcome by circumstance," he knows what he should do, he is overcome by circumstances in which he must choose appropriate actions for he knows he has done wrong. He fell in the Devil's hand, he fell into nothingness, the nonbeing if you wish. Furthermore, in the whole: "I know it's hard to forgive me now But I swear I've taught myself how" can be perceived as him talking to himself, maybe a girl, or even God if you will. Either way he is telling himself, or his girl, or God that he knows it is hard to forgive him now for he has said so many times he'll quit but hasn't yet. He swears this time though, and that he taught himself how to "barricade the door
I won't go there anymore."
Overcome by circumstance
Separated by consequence
I fell lower than before
Lower than I have before
Again he is overcome by circumstance, but he is separated by consequence, meaning "oops i did it again," even though he knew better, and since he knew better he fell lower than before. I mean, he just swore he wouldn't go back! And Tillian continues:
If I could just get through to you
We could put in the final screws
To the barricade the door
And start back where we were
(*insert himself, God, girl, guy, whatever you're wanting to give up that bad habit for).
Nevertheless, DGD ends it with this tricky quote by Mess:
Carcinogenic isotope, we need the A-team montage
Disregard the message from the ending of the album
Oh he said disregard the message from the ending of the album, but isn't the last song....
PS, you can see that Tillians' lyrics are more, oh yeah it's not that bad, It even sounds like he enjoys it "the way you make me feel inside my bones"..."anticipation burns me up inside." But Mess' part is the darker side, telling himself that it is bad and messing him up.
