it is telling how mankind is always only thinking of themselves, while their pets give them all their love and loyalty and trust.
clearly the animals were abandoned. no-one cared for them.
they should have saved them too, or, if that was not be possible, kill them as painless and quickly as possible.
in stead of that, they left him to suffer for hours without end... with no hope for salvation.
probably celebrating and congratulatinig each other for being saved just in time. with not one serious thought of the animals that they were responsible for.
