I believe this song to be about a dead lover. The death of the lover is implied to be at some fault of the narrator possibly an accident or something a lot more sinister (digging the earth). Either way it's close to where the two (now one) live/lived. The narrator cannot bring herself to go back to a place she once loved because of the darkness surrounding it. Now the narrator has to live in a ''hell on her own'' because of what has happened.
Medicine refers to the old idiom that time can heal. But the narrator mocks this claim and says that time will never heal what has occurred or how she feels. It also seems she shows some remorse for her actions as she holds the ''cold hand'' and says she's not going anywhere but her guilt/sadness causes her to anyway.

Such a sad and dark song.
