In the end it sounds like he's being set free from a personal hell via death (lethal injection or suicide). In the closing lines he seems to think he's free, but there's a sudden disappointment cause he says: there is no light here, is there no key.
Whatever the meaning, there's a sense of foreboding that underscores the tune. It's both sad and a bit haunting. I like it but it makes me slightly uncomfortable.
