Lipgloss Lyrics

Taking the brightest interpretation possible, this song is sarcastic to make a point about love: love is not based upon what one wears, what one owns, and so on.

Take 'X' and 'Y' to be two people. X loves Y because X belongs to Y and Y belongs to X; Y loves X because X belongs to Y and Y belongs to X.

Considering this definition of love -- which I believe is the definition the song alludes to and which I believe is a correct understanding of it-- we can now examine some of the lyrics of the song to show how my interpretation is a good one:

"You've lost your lipgloss Honey, Oh yeah. Now nothing you do can turn him on,"

Love is not dependent upon what one wears. Suppose X and Y are humans. Suppose X loves Y (and by definition, therefore, also Y loves X). Suppose X is male and Y is female. Suppose X loves it when Y wears lipgloss. The song remarks how the female feels -- that X cannot love Y unless Y wears her lipgloss. Y is not thinking correctly. If X loves Y, then X loves Y regardless of what Y wears yet X may still love it when Y wears lipgloss. In the song's scenario, X and Y are not in love and, sarcastically, the narrator explains the reason must be the loss of the lipgloss.

My Interpretation

omg that's awesome & on par. bingo!
