I think its about a girl/friend who went through a tough time with perhaps depression and self harm, and this is basically him trying to get her to stop harming herself. and I thing the 'waiting in the hallway waiting for a sign' part is perhaps him in the hospital waiting for her to wake up after a suicide attempt.
