I think that all this song is truly talking about is all the terrible things that happen in the world, like hunger, and someone finally has had enough of it and wants to help to get rid of it. The lyrics:

Bored to death?
Have you had enough regret?
Take a stand, raise your hand"
all are talking about someone who has seen and or heard all the problems going on in the world and finally wants to help get rid of it since they don't want to hear about that kind of stuff anymore. Also, the lyric segment:
"While there's a fighting chance"
is telling everyone that they have to help prserve the world and end world hunger before it's too late and a ton more of people die or the earth dies since we failed to keep it clean. All I have right now, can't really think of anything else to say! ;)
