I think this song is generally about a guy taking all the blame on a failing relationship. The opening verse tells that both of them are having deep trouble ''the light of day too far gone' in their relationship and it's too far gone. But the guy admitted that he was somehow expecting that this would be the turn out of events "no need to explain, I know how this came, don't you assume I don't". Probably the cause of the fight are some differences between them, that's why the guy pleads, "you gotta love me in the light to love me in the dark". Telling her, both of my good (light) and bad (dark) sides are part of me, they are what makes me whole. Moreover, he tells the girl, that if they want to work things out, both of them should make an effort, "and if we want each other, cock it and pull it". But nonetheless, he is brave enough enough to admit his wrongs, that's why he keeps on saying "I'll take the bullet".
That's all :) And oh, another thing, I think this band is way too underrated! I think they deserve bigger breaks and I hope to hear and see more of them in the spotlight. I missed hearing good rock alternative sounds nowadays! And so stereo is one of my faves!
