I think some people may have missed point a little, it's definitely about a girl. It's a new relationship and he's telling her his intention, and that's to just try and be her friend. A lot of times people project things on the people they are interested in and make assumptions. A woman has a certain way she would like to be seen, so you're not going to be able to see her that way from day one, so you gotta just let her reveal herself naturally, and the only thing you can do is try and be friends with her, which is all love is really about.

@brandon346 that's just sexist to say of you. There is nothing "a woman has", each woman is different, and s are males. Your comment is a pitiful simplification, and is based on cliche stereotypes. You have to read more into Dylan, he is using metaphors on many levels, and is never straight-forward.

@brandon346 Couldn’t agree more. This is one of my favourite songs not only by Dylan, but in general because of the lyrics. My husband played it for me after dating for a while and he's been my number one ally ever since.

This song is what women want when starting a new relationship.

@brandon346 The song is about the struggles of the LGBTIQ+ community of NYC
