Heir Apparent Lyrics

A great song that was sadly buried as a Maladjuted b-side and on the Lost EP. This song could be considered a companion to David Bowie's Teenage Wildlife. The song is an allegory for Morrissey career at that time and those who were looking to succeed him. At the time this song was written circa 1996/7, Morrissey's career was in need of serious rehab, SG had not sold well and neither would Maladjusted. So his references to degradation (maybe poor concert ticket sales) and 'it had all changed' (musical tastes). The heir is an upcoming pop star seeking to take Morrissey's former place in pop royalty. The song is a cautionary message to budding pop stars- hey kids, some of you might make it, but beware, the industry will use you, you fan base could dissappear and you'll wind up washed up like me. Fortunately for Morrissey, he was able to make a comeback after Maladjusted so he didn't truly wash up.
