Being a strong believer in God, I believe that this song is about being so blind about God and his wonders, and finally coming to a realization of who God is.

Under a pall of misery?" - this particular verse is indicating that Dallas green ( singer ) probably had past issues in his life. He most likely made a connection with the Lord, but is suffering with his faith and wondering where he would be without God.
