Cover art for Candy lyrics by Robbie Williams

One of Robbie's most lyrically creative songs, I think. The style of being a modern nursery rhyme announces that behind the harmless metaphors is a serious story. I like trying to figure out what is clearly some interesting slang terms:

"Rainbows and Ponies": I'm pretty sure is T 'n' A advertised in the sweetest possible way. What gets attention up high and what you ride down low.

"Moving bricks to brixton and learning how to fix them": might mean her dad is a mobster/dealer/fence of some sort, and is now semi-legit or at least rich enough to not be under constant police attention.

"Lots of different horses to lots of different men": might mean children, but more likely it's that she's involved in several intense relationships at once where each person is racing to an inevitable end and the winner is who leaves with the most cash.

"The bush is high, but in the hole there's water": when she wins, she's on a high, life is good, but when she loses, she falls into a depressive state.

"Hurricane in the back of her throat... a little to loud and little too close": a slapper, would be another word, but I think it's more a case of demonstrating that she can still feel "normal" things and control herself, but that she's a bit screwed up and making it worse. The guy cares about her regardless.
