I thought it was about a young man dying as well until I realized the song is mainly focused on a woman dying (mother?). The suit part can mean that as a young man, he shouldn't have to be taking on the role of a grown man. That is why he thinks "this faith we fake is a choice" because once something terrible happens to you, it becomes hard to see the world positve anymore and he clearly is hurting. I love this song.
