A bizarre song and one of the first few goth/post punk songs I ever heard. Over the years, I've yet to really decide what the song means, but I think it could be any one of the 3:

1) A man falls into despair and rage over his wife leaving him. 2) A man falls into despair and rage over his wife leaving him, and subsequently murders her ("it's the rage that overtakes him is what he fears the most"..."white dress makes me see red"..."where has the bride gone"). 3) Could be some kind of veiled reference to the "bride of Christ", otherwise known as the Church. Brian Healy has no shortage of songs criticizing the Church. He even later put out a song called "Bride Song" where the lyrics say something like “Jesus I love You, but I don’t understand Your wife. She wears such funny make-up and she always wants to fight. Every time I turn my back, she’s waiting with a knife.”

So, I think it could be one of those 3, but the song seems pretty open to interpretation. To my knowledge, Brian has never outright confirmed the song's meaning.
