I love this song. What an enigmatic story. To me it's a dialogue between God and the Devil. God banishes his brother so he can follow his dreams of heaven. Later the Devil takes over the world, and God can't stop him.
God's abandonment of his brother led to this evil.
@Operations666 Mehhh, IDK about that, I see on this site a lot of new age type Christian rock fans trying to read into great classic songs a lot of imparting their own, too often newly-found religious fervor, imparting a lot of nonsense about writers coming from a Biblical perspective. Having written that I must say your perspective is spot-on in its reflection of the eternal struggle between good & evil, the forces of darkness vs the love of light. Satan or whomever the antagonist is here, reminds him that he is not found just in the darkness of night but...
