I love this song but it is clearly a parody of bourgeois sentimentality. It is about a rape followed by a murder-suicide.

"I laid you down on the grass of a clearing You wept but your soul was willing"

You wept but your soul was willing? Really?

I'm not sure how that can be interpreted as anything other than a rape, even though the song is disguised as a romantic tragedy.

It is clearly sung by a classic "unreliable narrator."
