So I think it is a song about a possible first love, considering the the lines "Paved the way for me to follow/ But I was only 17", and the possible temptations encountered in that love (i.e. Demons and the chorus "One fell out of my dreams/ It crept into my heart) and the inevitability of it ending (And when it's over/ Stay true and act the part/ I know it won't it won't last but that's the way it goes)
The "poison" is referring to the symptoms of love, i.e. "Dizzy, sick, and paralyzed" as in making one's head spin, the feelings of butterflies in the stomach, and unable to move in a significant other's presence.
In the second verse, the lines "And if it looks like Armageddon's coming down today/ I''ll kick back a bottle of that poison, it's made for you and me" it's referring to if today is the last day we have left I want to spend it in love with you, which are really intense feelings one could be experiencing for the first time.
