And the song IMO is about the battle between a man and his surroundings. It's called The Joust after all and it basically means that we as me are warriors and we should fight for something. In the darkening shadows of every deep battle stands a man, behind all ideals wars are fought by men. Not to say the song is specifically about war but about the battles we choose for ourselves.
