I think this song is about death. Someone got stranded in the snow with the night approaching. They keep telling themselves they aren't scared, to keep up their own morale, but in reality they are terrified. Death is closing in, it's getting colder and the person most likely won't make it through the night.

A supportive spirit of nature (or death) is trying to comfort the person, telling them it's ok, they aren't alone and dying isn't really an end. Stop being afraid of what's next, open the window and enjoy the scents and sounds of nature, think of how sweet the soil and snow smell. Go peacefully instead of fighting something that can't be stopped. People don't stop to enjoy nature, they're too busy worrying about anything and everything. Spend your last moments enjoying something beautiful.

The spirit is saying the sudden feeling of water rushing through the heart and lungs will be what death feels like after everything goes dark. It's kind of giving the person a heads up so they won't be in a panic in the last second of their life.

The end of the song is the person succumbing to the cold and finally dying.
