“Lust is easy, Love is hard, Like is the most important.” ~Carl Reiner

When you can't stand someone as a person, why start anything at all? A pretty face is not enough. It's easy to be turned on by someone's looks but if your core values are opposing, that person is only attractive until they open their mouth....or until you discover who they really are. If you could never be friends, you should never be lovers.

The bottom line is if you respect someone as a person and share solid values, you can get through the hard times but if nothing of value to you is within that person, it won't be long and they will turn you off, pretty face or not. This is why having something in common is so important [the more things in common, the better match] and how people who've been married for decades can still turn each other on...the attraction can be physical but it is also at a much deeper level. You don't have to be exactly the same. Traits can be complimentary but if traits are opposing, even casual sex is impossible because it's difficult to get turned on by someone you hate. And it's impossible to pretend there's a soul there once you've seen pure evil behind beautiful eyes. This song is a playful version of that scenario. "Waiter, separate checks."
