I think this song is written from Nelson Mandela's point of view. He has just been released from prison (The sea wants to kiss the golden shore, the sun warms your skin). I think he is saying he wants to make peace with his enemies after the violent struggles against Apartheid (I can't fight you anymore). He wants to make sure South Africa is ruled fairly, without black domination and without white domination (It's you I'm fighting for). He wants to rebuild South Africa, but this is not possible if all the people of South Africa remain angry and full of hate (We can't reach any higher, If we can't feel ordinary love).
