I think it’s about the fallout of emotions close to the end of a relationship / a recent break up.
The jist of it is:

Is like a power statement, to justify to her and the world that he is still strong despite what’s happened (but really he’s not).
“I was born in the morning
I died at night”
He’s strong during the day but he breaks down at night thinking about his what’s happened.

They couldn't get me out

It runs out”
He’s saying to her that he knows he is a lost cause and that he found it difficult to express how he truly felt about her during the relationship.
