This is another beautiful song, nicely written and the music is so nice, too. I think the lyrics are referring back to a time he wishes he could go back to. When he and someone else were perfect and they had history, but they fell apart. And it's saying that he held onto her till the last second, and to not forget that he would have done anything for her. And then he's basically wishing he was good enough and resisting trying again.
